WHY STOCK HARNESSES AREN’T ALWAYS THE BEST OPTION
When you first buy your UTV, you’re going to have a lot of fun decisions to make like where you’re going to take your first ride or who you’re going to take with you.
But before getting to the fun bits, taking a minute to hammer out any considerations for safety equipment can easily be one of the smartest decisions that you’ll ever make.
You might be thinking to yourself at this point, “but my UTV came with seat belts and they look just fine”. Well, let’s take a minute to discuss a few things that you might not have thought about:

1. Stock retractable seat belts
While “okay” for most leisurely riding, in the case of an unforeseen accident, retractable stock seat belts may not be sufficient to keep you strapped down safely during a rollover or fire.
Do you know what’s scarier?
The OEM seatbelts typically feature retractable/clutch mechanisms, so there can be no way to predict when you actually will be held tight by them until a moment of impact.
2. Considering your comfort
It’s an uncomfortable fact that you find out in the worst way – constant irritation during a ride using standard 3-point, shoulder-type seatbelts on your off-road vehicle may cause shoulder burns. This can lead to severe discomfort and irritation when riding.
PRP harnesses are designed to resolve these issues. Among the things that set us apart from the rest are the soft shoulder pads that come standard with every PRP harness. No need to worry about shoulder burns or fatigue with us!
When upgrading to a harness, keep in mind that many UTV models today have a seatbelt interlock system that puts the vehicle into “limp” mode if the belt is not worn. Your vehicle will need a seatbelt override since the new harness won’t engage the old seatbelts. Luckily, our 4.2 harness with speed limiter connection fixes all these issues (only needed for drivers seat) – no overrides or bypasses are needed.
3. Long-term fatigue
In the very best of circumstances, a rider who is not held correctly will simply experience a lot of body movement and become fatigued more than one using an aftermarket harness.
By switching from OEM seatbelts to PRP harnesses, you will be more secure, comfortable, and able to maneuver more efficiently. Whether you are looking for a full racing harness or a recreational harness, we have what you need for all your off-road adventures!
